This is going to be an overall on my summer..kind of...
Pre-Florida... I didn't really even want to go to camp, so I didn't buy a ticket :-/ I was still crushed by the fact that Camp Lone Star passed me up again...for the 3rd year...but that isn't where God wants me right now. My spirits changed and God is good...I had a friend driving to Florida around the time I was going...so we went together...and I didn't have to pay for gas or anything :-D It took us 23 hrs to get there, we stopped for 1 hr to rest in some random state and it rained the entire drive except for like the last 45min or hour...
Orientation Week...
Okay...yeah it was only a week...and I can't really say that it was much of an orientation. One day all we did was go to a staff meeting and then do a whole bunch of paperwork (i know it had to be done...). The next day we went over the handbook...also boring..but they could have let us read it and then go over the main parts with us as a summer staff...Wednesday we went to our "special areas" to get trained...they sent four of us to the barn to get trained there...and four to the ropes course to get trained. On thursday we went on a staff trail ride.. :-) and on Friday we did some low ropes stuff...Saturday had to get up early because we got trained for CPR/First Aid (which I totally didn't need to do cause my card was still current. Sunday we got "commissioned" at the Woodlands Church...it was the only time I went to that particular church. If I ever become a camp director like I hope...we will have more than one week orientation...and we will do more camp things..not just paperwork.
WEEK 1
I find out that Tabitha and I are going to be in the barn YAY! Little Jon gets fired because he just doesn't want to be there..why should we make him stay. We get some really cool campers..and we ourselves find out how things are really going to work.
WEEK2
Tabitha and I are in the barn for another week. YAY. Things are going well...we don't get dinners (but Deon and Ben fixed that) It gets boring when we are not on the clock..at night...so we go out and watch movies all the time.
WEEK3
Tabitha and Katie get shipped off to work with Camp Noah. I'm in the barn again, Stephanie and Nic and Amy are all in kids camp. Nothing too exciting happeneing.
WEEK4
Tabitha and Holli leave. Both quit but for very different reasons...Tabitha needed to go home to do wedding stuff...working at camp was way to stressful for her...Holli...well no one really knows the real reason she quit...she told everyone something different.
WEEK5
I tore my ACL, meniscus, and some other ligament...although i this point..i know know i hurt my knee.Problems start with the remaining counselors. Katie and Nic do retarded things with the campers...Amy has to deal with them all day...Stephanie and I don't because we work in the Barn in the morning. Amy has decided that she will be quitting but she won't be leaving until after week 6.
WEEK6
Overnight camp. WHOOP! My shift this week is from 6am to 2pm. I take the girl's cabin to breakfast every morning. We go to the barn from there until 12. I swim in the afternoon..then help out as much as possible. Amy leaves on Friday..sad sad day. We sent a camper to the hospital because she flew off her horse (she is OKAY!) she was yelling and kicking and such that her back hurt..but since she was kicking...we knew she was okay...it was a bruised tail bone. John (in maintenance) yelled at me for speeding in the golf cart..but I had to cause I couldn't get ahold of Ben via radio..so everyone told me to ignore him (cause i cried alot alot).
WEEK7
Stephanie and I are in charge or woship and it rocked! Steph and I have made it a point to go home (her home) every weekend at this point to get away. Katie wants to move out cause in her words "I can't stand it anymore." We don't know what she was talking about..neither does Ben...so he made her stay.
WEEK8
Last week of camp. It's sad. I want to stay..but with different staff. Stephanie and I go to her house friday and she drops me off on sunday. I cry... I stay until Wednesday and help Ben around camp and stuff...he told me Stephanie and I have a job there next summer if we want it.
I'm home now..I'm going back up to Austin on Monday, but I'm not going back to Concordia. I'm going to live with my brother for a little while and then I am going to go to ACC in the spring maybe. After I get my GPA up A LOT (i didn't get it up as much as they wanted me to so I lost fin aid.) I want to transfer to Concordia in St Paul because I hear they have a really good Outdoor Min. program. Till next time.
